OUR ROOF REPLACEMENT PROCESS
1. Original roof removal
Removal of the original tiled roof is the first part of the roof replacement process. An average tiled roof can have between 8 and 16 tonne of concrete tiles cladding its surface and its vitally important to removed the original roof cladding with the most efficiency. Large skip bins are placed near the roof edge and allow the roof tiles to be thorn directly off the roof and smash into small pieces in the skip bin.
2. Roof Batten install
Once the roof cladding has been removed the next step is to install metal roof battens. We use 40mm steel roof battens fixed at 900mm maximum spacings as the fixing substrate for the roof sheeting. The original timber tiled roof battens really serve no purpose in the roof replacement other than holding up the roof blanket to the underside of the roof sheet. The metal roof battens are screw fixed to each and every truss or rafter and this gives a great racing effect to the whole roof structure.
3. Roof sheeting install
The third stage to the process is to install the roof sheeting. The roof is effectively fully laid with Insulation blanket first and then Colorbond metal sheeting is placed directly over the top. Roof screws go through the roof sheet and roof blanket and bite into the 40mm metal batten beneath. With a roof replacement there are two options with roof sheet gauge. Most houses around Australia have the standard 0.42mm base metal thickness Colorbond roof sheeting. We offer and option to increase the base metal thickness to 0.48mm. It may not sound like a lot but the sheets are better to walk on and have better hail resistance also.
4. Flashings and caps
The final stage of the Roof replacement is the finishing off stage. All roof screws and fixed in place. All chimney and barge flashings are installed. Any air conditioners and skylights sealed up and flashed with tray flashings. A final cleanup of the site, skip bin removal and the job is done.
